10 Money Making Ideas (That You’ve Never Heard Of) to Try Immediately

HK - UPDATED:
10 Money Making Ideas to Earn Extra Money in 2018Pin
Looking for money making ideas that’ll score you a little extra cash this year?
We’ve got’em.
Forget deciding between Thirty-One, Scentsy or LuLaRoe. No more falling for work from home scams or other ‘too good to be true’ offers. At BTOP we’re always on the prowl for new money making ideas or proven ways to make extra money. We do the hard vetting so you don’t have to.
Maybe you’re looking for fresh ideas to help pay off debt. Maybe you’re trying to fund a hobby, start your own business, or save for the future. Or maybe you just want to make enough money to have a little extra wiggle room in your budget each month.
Whatever the reason, we all have those little guilty pleasures that cost money (don’t ask me how much I’ve spent on Caramel Macchiato’s this year). And while money doesn’t translate into happiness, life is often a whole lot less stressful with a little extra jingle in your pockets.
We want this year to be your best year ever. To make it happen we’ve found 10 money making ideas to help you not feel guilty when treating yourself to that Venti Peppermint Mocha.

1. Turn your love for lists into $100 with Listverse

Are you one of those people that has to-do lists scattered all over your house? You know, those little daily reminders, a grocery list, or maybe bucket list perhaps?
Well, guess what:  other people love reading lists, too.
As such, it’s no surprise Listverse is one of the most popular websites in the world. What may surprise you, however, is that they’ll actually pay you to draft interesting lists for their readers. Even more impressive is the $100.00 they’ll dish out for every user-submitted list that gets accepted (hint:  not every list is accepted).
You can write about just about any topic that interests you as long as 1) the content is unique and 2) you can manage 1-2 paragraphs explaining each item on the list.
Bonus: If you have a blog or an established Twitter account (and your list is accepted), they’ll link to it at the bottom of your list.
2. Get paid to take online surveys
If you haven’t jumped on the online survey bandwagon already you’ve been missing out. Companies such as SwagbucksSurvey Junkie, and Vindale Research have already paid out hundreds of millions of dollars to survey takers all over the world.
The good news? They’re not even close to being done.
Better yet, more paid survey sites are popping up all the time.
The next time you’re binge-watching Breaking Bad for the fourth time, why not make a little extra money and fill out paid surveys?
Many of the sites also allow you to earn rewards by using their search engine, shopping, or playing videos.
While you’re not going to get rich completing surveys, it’s one of the more popular money making ideas we’ve seen…and it’s the only one you can do while unwinding and watching Netflix.

3. Lose weight

Have you been meaning to lose weight? Are you waiting for the next new year to roll around before you make a resolution? (Don’t be ashamed if you answer yes. Your secret is safe with me.)
What if I told you there’s actually a company that will pay you to lose weight? Would you agree it is time to quit waiting and stop letting those years keep passing by?
HealthyWage motivates its users to lose weight. You basically give yourself a period of time (at least six months) to lose a certain amount of weight. Then, you decide how much you want to bet against yourself every month.
If you lose that weight, HealthyWage pays you. Start by checking out their Prize Calculator and see how much you could possibly stand to win.
They even have team competitions that pay as much as $10,000. Why go at it alone when you can make your best friend suffer with you!?
4. Create an online course
Believe it or not, you likely know a thing or two about something that others would like to know more about.
Maybe you are insanely good at knocking job interviews out of the park (and getting that salary you asked for)…or you’re practically a genius when it comes to using a crockpot to feed a small army (without spending hours in a kitchen).
Whatever it is, consider turning your passion into an online course. You can change others’ lives while teaching them about your hidden expertise, and you can make money while doing it.
5. Start a blog
Many of you are active readers of a blog (like this one) but have you ever seriously considered starting your own?
Jeff and I started BTOP a mere 1 year ago and the experience has been unlike anything we’ve ever imagined.  For the cost of a cup of coffee each month, you too can start your own money-making blog. HostGator offers hosting (powers your website) and WordPress (the shell of this website) for just under $3.00/month  (you can’t beat that pricing anywhere else).
Some of the many perks include:
  • an additional source of income from our blogs!)
  • you get to work from home, or wherever you want really…in your pajamas
  • no boss!?!
  • set your own flexible schedule
  • you get to work on what you enjoy, not what you’re told to do.
If you want to check out a tutorial that’ll have you up and running in 15 minutes, along with tips for how to get traffic and start making money, you can see one here:
6. Drive with Uber
Okay so you may have heard of this one but many of you don’t know exactly how Uber works (as evidenced by the dozens of questions we’ve received about them).
As an Uber driver, you can choose your own hours to hit the road and make extra money. So if you want to drive for Uber right after you finish at your 9-5, you can do that. If you want Uber to exclusively be your weekend gig, you can do that too. We like Uber because it's easy to get setup and its one of the more flexible money making ideas out there.
Going to school, juggling children’s extracurricular activities, having hobbies of your own…ain’t nobody got time for a full-time gig anyways.
That’s the best part about Uber:  you don’t have an assigned schedule. The clock starts when you want it to start.

7. Put your typing skills to the test

Do you pride yourself on your quick typing skills? Have you ever thought of becoming a court captioner? Maybe you are fluent in at least one other language?
Rev allows you to make money transcribing while you work from home on your own time. Control your own hours, choose your own projects, and make money typing. Plus, if you need money fast Rev pays weekly and offers a variety of jobs.
Apply to become a freelance captioner, transcriptionist, or translator for Rev.

8. Sell your old technology

Thinking about upgrading your iPhone? Trying to clear your DVD or Blu-Ray collection? Maybe you have an old textbook you thought you would reference, but let’s be real, you haven’t touched it since classes ended.
Decluttr buys your old technology (including your old phones, video games, CDs, e-readers, consoles).
All you have to do is enter some information about the product you want to sell. From there, they tell you how much they’ll pay you for the product. After you send the product, you get paid.

9. Teach English online

You can actually teach English online…from anywhere with a WiFi connection (and no, you don’t need to know another language).
Depending on the company, you may have to limit your teaching hours to their scheduled time periods. But, you can still choose what time during those periods works for your schedule.
VIP KIDS provides its teachers with lesson plans and course materials. You can make an average of $18-22 per hour teaching English to children and families on VIPKID.
Interested? We thought you might be. You can apply to VIP kids teaching program .

10. Open a savings account that actually pays

Know how we know you haven’t heard of this one?
Because high-interest savings accounts hardly exist anymore.
Where have you been putting your money away lately? Do you let it sit in a checking account? In a coin jar? Under your couch cushions?
Are you’re one of those people that haven’t looked at your bank account because you fear what’s there (or not there)?
Why not stash your extra cash in a savings account that actually pays? If you’re looking for ways to make extra income, this is an easy place to start (and it only takes 10 minutes!).
Despite their rates occasionally varying, Discover Bank typically pays at or around 1% APR (that’s over 5 times the national average for those counting). There’s no monthly fees and no monthly balance requirements.
If you want your money to make you even more money, this is the easiest way to do it.
